CMF Halo Awards; M.S.L. Group “Purple”; Unilever Hosts Sustainability Dialogue – CSR Minute

Proctor and Gamble and UNICEF won Golden Halo Awards for overall excellence in cause marketing given out at the Cause Marketing Forum conference held in Chicago. Other winners of Halo Awards include Coca-Cola and World Wildlife Fund, Zynga and Save the Children, and Toys R Us and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Over 500 cause marketing professionals attended the Halo Awards event, voted in a “Perfect Pitch” contest, and celebrated the 10th anniversary of C.M.F.

Unilever has held a 24-hour, global dialogue to coincide with the first year progress report on the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. The online “Sustainable Living Lab” registered 4,000 comments from 2,200 people from 77 countries. The Lab provided a forum for topics raised in the report, from sustainable sourcing and consumer behavior change to waste and recycling.

One Hundred Percent of Simon Malls Now Recycle

INDIANAPOLIS, June 7, 2012 / 3BL Media / PRNewswire/ – Simon Property Group, Inc. (NYSE: SPG), the world’s leading retail real estate company, announced today that 100 % of Simon’s enclosed regional malls and Mills properties now offer waste recycling to merchants.

Simon’s commitment to recycling is well established. In 2011 the company completed a ‘Recycling Enhancement Plan’ which resulted in the conversion of more than 70 compactors from trash to recycling and the diversion of an additional 6,000 tons of waste from landfills annually. Additionally, common area recycling containers were added to 40 centers, providing recycling access to shoppers. In all, Simon recycles over 58,000 tons of material annually and has increased its diversion rate by 25% over the past two years.

“The fact that every one of our enclosed properties is now recycling cardboard is an accomplishment that makes us proud,” said George Caraghiaur, senior vice president of energy and procurement at SPG, who coordinates the company’s sustainability efforts. CSX Sponsors EDF MBA; REI Happy Employees; Banorte Donates $580K – CSR Minute

CSX will welcome an MBA student from the Environmental Defense Fund’s Climate Corps summer fellowship program for the third consecutive year. The selected Fellow will work with the company’s environmental and operations teams to develop a program to educate employees about how to save energy.

REI’s stewardship report for 2011 includes the results of an independent employee survey about worker satisfaction. The company’s overall score is a favorability rating of 87 percent, based on employee comments in eight key areas. REI has also been included on Fortune’s “Best Places to Work For” list for the 15th consecutive year.

Banorte and its Foundation have collected over eight million pesos, about $580,000 dollars, through its network of ATMs and IXE branches to help support drought victims. The funds were divided equally among the fives state most affected, and were sent to support families through local civil society organizations in each state known for their professionalism and transparency.

Hannaford Sustainable Seafood; Aramark at the Olympics; Harvard CSR Program – CSR Minute

Hannaford Supermarket has adopted a sustainability policy that covers all seafood across the store, from fresh fish to canned and packaged goods to frozen products. The policy was developed with help from the Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland, and traces each of 2,500 products back to their source, down to the precise fishery.

More than 100 company volunteers will establish an Aramark Building Community Opportunity Zone in the Olympic borough of Newham to help connect residents to the workforce at Community Links, which runs a range of services and projects for all ages.

Harvard Business School Executive Education is offering “Corporate Social Responsibility Strategies to Create Business and Social Value,” a program to help executives align CSR with business strategy. The program will be held October 17th through the 20th on the H.B.S. campus in Boston.

SVTC Survey Finds Solar Industry Leaders Improving Environmental and Social Performance
