LG Electronics and the EPA are teaming up on a number of environmental programs that leverage the technical expertise of the federal agency. An EPA 2012 Energy Star Partner of the Year, LG has made a commitment to several new initiatives. They include joining the Energy Star Commercial Building and the EPA WasteWise Programs, supporting the EPA’s Sustainable Materials Management programs for electronics and food waste recycling, and achieving LEED certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The charitable foundation of the Newman’s Own food company has awarded a $50,000 grant to Community Servings, a Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts non-profit. The organization will use the funding to develop its “Family Nutrition Initiative,” interactive workshops for formerly homeless families around Boston who are transitioning to housing. The grant was made through the foundation’s nutrition-focused funding initiative that aims to support new and expanding programs. The Green Can Inc. is a recycling initiative to allow the easy and convenient recycling of aluminum cans.
The thought here is that people when given a readily available choice to recycle they will indeed do the right thing. The obvious first choice for placement is any high density residential community.There is no form of recycling offered at 95% of apartment communities.
