Green Hotels on BookDifferent – Over a thousand accommodations with an eco-label

BookDifferent is the first hotel booking site that indicates hotels with an eco-label, among accommodations without such a label. Someone looking for a green hotel is no longer dependent on specialized sites.

BookDifferent works together with two international eco-labels focusing on the leisure and tourism industry: Green Key and Green Globe.  On the BookDifferent site a total of 1015 hotels in 62 countries have been awarded one or both eco-labels. Continue reading

Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Sales in Europe to Reach 827,000 Annually by 2020

solar_carAlthough government support for electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe is waning, the increasing availability of vehicle charging infrastructure that enables vehicles to charge at home, at the workplace, and in public places is facilitating market growth.  With electric and electrically assisted vehicles now available in the mainstream market, the fundamental question is no longer if there is a market; rather, the question is how fast that market will grow.  According to a new report from Pike Research, a part of Navigant’s Energy Practice, EVs – including electrically assisted hybrids – will play an increasingly important role in European markets, growing from 0.7 percent of the market in 2012 to 4 percent in 2020. While that is still a small portion of the market, it represents more than 827,000 vehicles sold annually in the region. Continue reading

FedEx Talks Fuel Economy, Sustainability at Green Fleet Conference

(3BLMedia) SCHAUMBURG, IL – FedEx has improved fuel economy by 16.6% and is on track to meet its goal of reducing fuel consumption by 20% from its 2005 baseline, said Mitch Jackson, Environmental Affairs & Sustainability, during a keynote speech last week during the 2012 Green Fleet Conference.

Jackson started with a 30,000-foot view of how FedEx approaches sustainability efforts. He said the focus at FedEx is to make its business and the world more sustainable and efficient.

The three key areas the company focuses on are:

- practical environmentalism
- improving global access to goods and services
- a focus on tangible, long-term projects that benefit the environment and society rather than programs that provide a one-time benefit. Continue reading
