Crystal IS Announces Record Performance from a Single Chip UVC LED

LED-wallpaperGREEN ISLAND, NY–()–Crystal IS, Inc., the leading manufacturer of proprietary, high-performance ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UVC LEDs) for monitoring, purification, and disinfection applications, has announced today that they achieved more than 65mW in optical output at 260 nm from a single UVC LED operated in a continuous mode. The details of this breakthrough were recently published in Applied Physics Express“This achievement is a technological milestone in the continued development of brighter, more efficient and reliable UVC LEDs. By employing die thinning and encapsulation techniques, we were able to increase the photon extraction efficiency to over 15%, “said Leo Schowalter, founder and CTO. “By fabricating our LEDs on our home grown aluminum nitride substrates, we continue to set the pace of what is possible for the combination of highest efficiencies and longest lifetimes in the 250-280 nm wavelength range, far surpassing diodes fabricated on sapphire.”

Suniva adds Solar UL 1000 Volt Certifications and Module Capacity

suniva-logoNORCROSS, Ga.–()–Suniva, Inc., a U.S. manufacturer of high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells and modules, today announced that it is expanding its (PV) module certifications by adding UL 1703 1000 volt listing for its high power OPTimus® line of modules. These modules feature 60 cell models with power output up to 270W and 72 cell modules with power output up to 315W. The high-power solar cells utilized in these modules are made at Suniva’s Norcross Georgia plant and headquarters.

With this enhancement, North American projects can now use Suniva modules connected in series strings up to 1000 volts DC. This can result in significant cost savings in reduced labor costs, more rapid installation, reduced number of wiring homeruns and combiner boxes, and lower cost, more efficient inverters can be utilized. Green Hotels on BookDifferent – Over a thousand accommodations with an eco-label

logo_diapAmsterdam, 14th January, 2013 – As of 2013, hotel booking site BookDifferent.com shows which of the more than 245.00 accommodations on their site are sustainable. BookDifferent is the first hotel booking site that indicates hotels with an eco-label, among accommodations without such a label. Someone looking for a green hotel is no longer dependent on specialized sites.

BookDifferent works together with two international eco-labels focusing on the leisure and tourism industry: Green Key and Green Globe.  On the BookDifferent site a total of 1015 hotels in 62 countries have been awarded one or both eco-labels. Continue reading

The Green Can – Recycling for the Benefit of Mankind

The Green Can Inc. is a recycling initiative to allow the easy and convenient recycling of aluminum cans.

The thought here is that people when given a readily available choice to recycle they will indeed do the right thing. The obvious first choice for placement is any high density residential community.There is no form of recycling offered at 95% of apartment communities. The very few who do offer it do so at a huge expense to the property. Currently only homeowners are provided easy access to recycling. Continue reading

CSR Minute Video – FSC Certifies 70K Domtar Forest; BOA Gives $20M to CDFI’s

Domtar has completed certification of 70,000 acres of forestland in Arkansas by the Forest Stewardship Council. The award was the result of a two-year partnership process with the Four States Timberland Owners Association and its 55 landowner-members. The Canadian paper, pulp, and fiber company has set a goal of procuring 100 percent of its fiber from sources that are certified to the FSC standard. Continue reading

Nevada Co-op Becomes First Out-of-State Utility to Join California Grid

FOLSOM, Calif.–()–The California Independent System Operator Corporation (ISO) welcomed Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) as the newest transmission owner to join the California grid as a participating member. The Pahrump, Nevada, electric cooperative and its wholly owned subsidiary, Valley Electric Transmission Association, LLC, serve more than 20,639 meters across a 6,849 square mile service territory in southwestern Nevada along the California-Nevada border. VEA also serves parts of Mono and Inyo counties in California.

The new cross-state partnership highlights the value of regional collaboration in greening the grid, creating jobs and benefiting ratepayers across the region. VEA and the ISO can share efficiencies and be the conduit for cost-effective renewable resources. This win-win relationship also adds competition and liquidity to our energy markets.
