5 Ways to Promote Eco-Friendliness on the Web
By Dixie Somers
Currently, the earth faces some rather serious threats. This includes things like global warming, severe weather, pollution and the destruction of natural ecosystems. If the earth as we know it is going to survive, everyone from all levels of society is going to have to contribute. One way to reach those people is through the World Wide Web. Below are five ways you can promote eco-friendliness on the internet.
1. Run an Environmental News Blog
To get people concerned about the environment enough to get involved in solving issues facing earth’s eco-systems, they need to first be informed on the issues. One way to spread the word is by running an environmental news blog. Report on stories that concern issues like global warming and deforestation and give them context to show people how these problems could affect their lives.
2. Publish a Video to Promote Eco-Friendliness
While text is one way to inform people about the environment, video may be an even stronger learning tool. Thankfully, you can publish videos on sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook and Instagram to do just that. Use the video to spread tips on how to live a more eco-friendly life. Also make sure the video is professionally produced. Websites like Color Grading Central provide tutorials that can show you how to professionally color grade your film. A more professionally done video will make a bigger impact on a web audience, and who knows? It could even go viral.
3. Organize on Social Media
Group action is required to save the environment. Thankfully, internet social networks like Twitter and Facebook are excellent tools for organizing a group into action. You can create a group page, build a following, and then help direct others to actually go out into the real world to remove pollution and inform the public about environmental issues.
4. Start an Online Charity
The internet is also an excellent tool for fundraising. Use it to help donate to environmental charities or create your own. You could, for example, create a donation drive to plant new trees in an area that was previously deforested, or crowdfund a larger-scale restoration project.
5. Create an Eco-Friendly App
Smart phone apps are something that most people now use as part of their daily routine. If you want to convince people to be more eco-friendly, create a downloadable app that they can use to determine their own carbon footprint. It could then give advice on how to lower it, step by step.
Overall, the internet and technology are great tools that can be used for good. This certainly can include fighting environmental problems like global warming and pollution. Take advantage of the net when you can to help spread the word about helping our environment
