Greenery: Pantone’s colour of the Year 2017 – Inspired by Nature
By: Lana Hawkins
For the last seventeen years, Pantone has been choosing the so-called colour of the year. Traditionally, it’s the colour which evokes our irreplaceable bond with nature. This year, the colour is called Greenery, or more specifically 15-0343.
Why this colour? The answer is fairly simple. People are and should be turning towards nature and eco-friendly living. It seems that the very word green has found its place in all the spheres of life – family, business, art, fashion, and food. In a world of concrete jungles, grey cubicles, monitors and displays constantly in front of our faces, having some green around can only make things better.
Here are several ways to incorporate Pantone’s new colour of the year in your life:
In the workplace
Scientifically, looking at the green colour is beneficial for you. This is because the sensors in our eyes, called cones, perceive this colour in a different way than, say, red, which is more piercing. Green, on the other hand, helps our eyes relax. It is also known to lift the mood and helps the whole body to relax, as we probably associate it subconsciously with the calmness of the nature. Finally, green affects the creativity, so looking at it and being surrounded by it can be inspirational – just think about all the poems and paintings inspired by this colour.
Therefore, we should try to incorporate as much of the green as we can in our workplace. If you can’t do anything bigger, try having a desk plant. Luckily, a large number of companies nowadays turn to the green interior by painting the office walls green. This is not only a cheap solution for making your workplace interior more pleasant, but it’s also entirely eco-friendly.
Around the house
Since our home is the place where we should unwind and enjoy our free time, we should design everything to suit our taste. Today, so many households are incorporating green living, by using sustainable materials while trying to leave as little carbon footprint as possible. Opting for green in both materials and colours is as good as it is popular.
If you’re redecorating some parts of the house, and the colour of the year sounds tempting, go for green walls. A single statement wall, or the entire room, it’s up to you, but one thing is guaranteed – it will be a favorite room for spending your leisure time. If you’re up for something more subtle, try incorporating green colour in your décor by adding accents. You can find a visual inspiration by browsing images on the Internet. Green combined with your dearest pieces of furniture will surely have a good impact on the entire family’s mood.
Even if you’re working from home, your workspace should be airy, well-lit, and (no matter the job), a place where you can work and use your creativity in the best possible way. Try including green here as well, if not on the walls, then through decorations, such as plants, rugs, pillows, or a bright green chair.
In your fashion style
Other than green as eco-friendly, this year, green is about to become very popular in the literal sense. As the spring approaches, and after that, summer, all the shops are going to be dotted with green clothes. Depending on your personal preferences, you can stock on several green details, such as jewelry or an accent scarf, or you can go all the way combining shades of green in the entire outfit. Since nature is the major inspiration, you can count on natural, organic materials, predominantly cotton and silk, while letting your skin breathe through the flaxen clothes during the hot summer days.
As you can see, even the colour of the year is speaking what all of us are thinking: go green!
