How to Make Your Daily Commute More Eco-Friendly
We spend a large chunk of our lives in transport, and it’s no secret that all the vehicles that are now being used daily are not exactly healthy for our environment. The increase in numbers of vehicles on the streets has been directly linked to environmental pollution. Vehicles that run on fossil fuels and similar energy release toxic fumes into the atmosphere, which always end up in our lungs. The numbers also show correlation with global warming, as well as the enormous amounts of oil consumption. As an answer to all of this, people have taken it upon themselves to find new ways of transport, some turning to the past and the time before cars and planes, and others towards the bright future and the technological improvements that it brings. But what can we, as individuals, do to make our daily commute greener? Here are some suggestions.
Carpool or take public transport
There is a very simple way to demonstrate how carpooling is beneficial for the environment. Imagine five people each going to the same place in their own car, and now imagine those same five people carpooling. They will all get to their destination but will spend four times less energy and release four times less gas into the atmosphere. The same concept, on a much bigger scale, applies to public transport. Reducing the amounts of cars on the streets is beneficial to the environment, but also to the speed of traffic, safety on roads and the overall traffic system.
Opt for cars of the future
Governments have started thinking about the benefits of eco-friendly public transportation a long time ago, and in many countries, these concepts have already been implemented. Trains and buses now run smoothly on electricity, often collected through solar panels or wind turbines. But we can do the same with our own cars. If you are planning to get a new car, think about the future. An electric or hybrid car might be a bit of an investment upfront, but it will pay itself off very soon and you will be helping yourself and the environment at the same time.
Give bikes a go
There is very little that can beat the cleanliness of riding a bicycle to work. It is good for your health and it is great for the environment. In most countries, you don’t need a special permit to ride a bicycle, and you can access roads that cars can’t even dream of going through. If you feel like your commute is too long, or if you live in an area with many hills, you can always opt for Bosch electric bike. Simply turn on the motor when you need a boost and get to your destination in no time. Unlike cars or motorcycles, these run only on electrical energy, and can easily be recharged at home, or on the move if you opt for a bike with solar power collectors. In the same category, there are scooters, skateboards and roller blades.
So you really don’t need to give up anything in order to have a green commute, you simply need to make a few simple changes to your lifestyle and you will be on the right path. Of course, the simple habits like walking instead of driving when going to a nearby place are something that we should teach all younger generations. That will be the thing that helps us get back on track with controlling the damage that everyday transport is doing to our planet. We don’t need to think about saving the whole world – each of us just needs to focus on going green in their own small way.
