An Eco-Friendly Lifestyle: 3 Ways to Start Today
Lifestyle is everything. It helps your health, your finances, your relationships, and the overall impact you have in the world. An eco-friendly lifestyle, in particular, can provide a lot of benefits. However, you might be confused about where you should start. Here are some ways you can make your lifestyle more eco-friendly.
Growing Your Own Produce
Your food at home probably comes from a store. This means that a lot of things had to happen for it to get to your home. It went through trucks, pesticides, and pollutants in order to be in your kitchen.
You can go green with your food by growing your own organic herbs and vegetables. This is a great place to start. It does not cost that much other than time and watering to get your plants to grow. This also helps you save money since you’re producing your own food instead of going to the store for produce. Additionally, growing them organically reduces the harmful toxic chemicals that can be used in certain types of farming.
Depending on where you live, it may make sense to change your habits with regards to getting to and from work. A bus or train could be affordable, but it still contributes to pollution. On the other hand, consider walking or biking if you are close enough. The extra exercise is always helpful as well.
If you don’t live close enough to make biking or walking a viable option, try to set up a carpool system with your coworkers. If two or more of you live in the same area, both of you can save gas and the environment by sharing a ride to work.
Humans use a lot of materials in today’s typical lifestyle. From food, to packaging, to everything in between, we throw away a lot of goods that end up going to landfills. When this happens, they simply pile up and contribute to pollution. A lot of these materials cannot actually be broken down.
Furthermore, it takes a lot of energy to create new materials. That is why recycling is so important. It allows the producers to reuse materials like scrap metal, plastics, and paper without having to go through the entire manufacturing process all over again. In turn, this reduces the negative effects of production put out into the atmosphere and environment and reduces the impact on global warming which is a major issue facing the globe right now.
So what can you do? Dedicate a bucket or box in your home to collect different recyclables in. If your community doesn’t offer recycling pickup, find a collection center close to home or specialized companies that offer things like scrap metal services in your area. Set aside some time every week or month to drop off those recyclables so they don’t end up in landfills or around our environments.
When it comes to lifestyles, not all of them are created equal. Some can bring you more joy and positivity into your life and the world around you. That is the case with an eco-friendly lifestyle where you know that you are doing the right thing. So don’t feel overwhelmed about where to start. Start small. Use the three ways above to get you in motion and let the rest fall into place naturally once you have that crucial momentum and desire to help the world stay healthy.
