6 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Recycle
When many people think about recycling, they think about things like paper and plastic. However, there are many other things that you can recycle. It’s actually kind of crazy! Below is a list of things that you probably did not know you could recycle:
If you have a pair of unused eyeglasses in your home, then you can potentially recycle them. It is estimated that four million pairs of glasses end up in landfills each year. If you recycle eyeglasses, then they can be sent to third world countries. Less fortunate people who do not have access to eye care are often given recycled glasses. Therefore, recycling your glasses can greatly improve the life of someone who does not have access to eye care. This is definitely a great way to help out around the world and really make a difference.
What!?! Did you know that you can recycle your carpet? It’s true! If you will be replacing the carpet in your home you don’t have to throw it out. There are actually a lot of companies that recycle carpet. In fact, you may be able to find a carpet recycling company by contacting the carpet manufacturer. They can let you know where to take your used carpet so that it can get put to good use.
There are many people in the world who do not have access to transportation. That is why you may not want to throw out your old bike. If the bike is still functioning, then it can be given to someone in need. The bike can be used for its parts if it is no longer in good condition. It is absolutely incredible how much you can do with equipment like this. Bike parts can definitely be used to make up a variety of things later. It is definitely a good idea to consider giving your bike up for recycling before you just throw it away.
You do not have to throw out old crayons. The old, broken crayons can be recycled into new ones. This is a great way to save money and really make a difference. Recycling things like this can also become a great and fun project for your children.
Pantyhose are disposable, but you do not have to throw them away. They often end up in landfills. Keep in mind that it can take pantyhose 30 to 40 years to decompose (which is crazy!!). That is why it is best for you to recycle them.
Your home may be filled with greeting cards. However, you should not throw them out. St. Jude’s Ranch For Children has a greeting card recycling program. The old cards are used to make new ones. The cards are then sold. The money that comes from selling the cards will be used to support children and their families.
Stick to the Classics
These are all really great things to recycle. There is no sense in just throwing things away when they could be put to good use. However, if at the time you are unable to recycle things like this you can always stick to the classics. Aluminum cans and glass are always available to recycle. You can take things like this to places like Main Street Fibers and they can help you make the most of your materials. It is amazing how many good quality products can be made from some quality recycled material.
Recycling protects the environment. It also makes our lives easier in many ways. There are many other things that you can recycle besides paper or plastic. Some of the things that you can recycle include greeting cards, pantyhose, crayons, bicycles, carpet, and eyeglasses.
