June 21, 2019 /3BL Media/ — More than 600 Nestlé employees and their families are expected to join a clean-up initiative around Lac Léman, Switzerland on 22 June 2019. This initiative is part of Nestlé’s broader vision to achieve a waste-free future.
In collaboration with ASL (Association pour la Sauvegarde du Léman) and with the support of 10 municipalities along the Riviera region, volunteers will remove all types of waste littered in the environment. The plastic waste collected will then be sorted and recycled in the municipal recycling systems.
Nestlé extends its gratitude and appreciation to the municipalities of Bourg-en-Lavaux, Corseaux, La Tour-de-Peilz, Lutry, Montreux, Paudex, Pully, St-Sulpice, Vevey and Villeneuve for their full support and collaboration in organizing this initiative.
To mark World Oceans Day on 8 June, 6,300 employees and their families participated in clean-up initiatives in 70 locations worldwide. In total, they removed 60 tons of waste from the environment, mostly from local water bodies. The employees’ children present at the events also participated in educational programs on the topics of environment, including recycling, and wildlife conservation.
Plastic pollution is a global challenge and Nestlé is committed to leading lasting and impactful change. Nestlé’s well-orchestrated efforts are based on three pillars. The first is to phase out all non-recyclable or hard-to-recycle plastics and replace these with alternative materials that are recyclable or even biodegradable. The second pillar is to achieve a waste-free future. Nestlé is involved in projects to prevent further accumulation of plastic in the environment. The third pillar is to promote good behavior. Nestlé acknowledges that behavior change needs to start from within the company.
